PI: Zinan Wang (王子楠)
「Assistant Professor」

Office: S307B Agricultural Science Center North
Laboratory: N329 Agricultural Science Center North
Zinan Wang obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Beijing Forestry University in 2013. He came to the US for graduate studies in Entomology in 2015. Zinan first earned his Master’s degree in Entomology in Dr. Rodrigo Diaz’s lab at Louisiana State University in 2017. He then pursued his Ph.D. studies in a dual major program in Entomology and Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior (EEBB) under the supervision of Dr. Henry Chung at Michigan State University, completing it in 2021. Zinan continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Chung’s lab at Michigan State University before joining University of Kentucky.

Graduate students
Guifang (Amelia) Lin (August 2025 – present)

Amelia obtained her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Agriculture at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. Amelia’s study focuses on wax synthesis genetics and physiology in Hemipteran insects.
Xiaoyue (Yue) Fan (August 2025 – present)

Yue obtained her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Agriculture at Shandong Agricultural University and two years of Master’s training in the Institute of Zoology at Chinese Academy of Sciences. Yue is currently investigating the genetics underlying insect cuticular hydrocarbon evolution.
Undergraduate students
Oluwatomisin (Tomi) D. Adekunle (January 2025 – present)

Tomi majors in the Agriculture and Medical Biotechnology (ABT) program. She investigates metabolic remodeling in desert-adapted Drosophila species and how this desert species physiologically withstands desiccation stress.
Amanda B Abshire (January, 2025 – present)

Amanda majors in Entomology. She assists the project to investigate the chemistry and genetics of wax synthesis in scale insects.
Michael E. Yong (November – December, 2024)

Michael is the first member to join the ZinanWang Lab. He was a senior at his last semester in biology at the University of Kentucky when joining the lab. He helped set up the lab and processed GC/MS data.
